LESSONS IN LEGACY
“
The conversation then needs to move swiftly onto
the wider family. As a lawyer advising on legacy, it is
essential that I know about the other family members,
and their existing roles and priorities. Ideally, they
all feel included in conversations about legacy and
succession. It can be that you have one of the children
who is more involved in a family business or the
management of assets than the others and seems set
to gain the ‘mantle’ of responsibility when succession
occurs. But their voice cannot be the only voice. For
the legacy to be sustainable other family members
must be heard.
