LESSONS IN LEGACY
Find the golden thread.
The wealth conversation shouldn’t be a simple statement that wealth must
be passed down through the generations, the narrative MUST evolve to
encapsulate why a family value the importance of holding shared wealth and
how they will co-own and manage the wealth.
“
As a family at large, we are thoughtful about
the transition of wealth. If I look at my own
experience, my father’s generation (the third
generation) were not especially sophisticated
about how this was articulated and presented,
which was not unusual. For us it was just done
our way - a family way. Done in osmosis and
picked up informally. You acquire a sense
of what matters and what is important and
it doesn’t need to always need to be strictly
formal, it evolves over time.

And as DR JUSTIN CRAIG pointed out:
“
It’s about having a mindset that you are a
steward or a custodian and that you are moving
the conversation from ‘me’ to ‘us’.
