Likewise for families, a preoccupation with
financial legacy opens up differences and
undermines the idea of ‘common cause.’
Rather than using language like ‘legacy’ with
my children, my focus is on enabling them in
a more philosophical sense. It’s the idea of
helping them to understand how to be the best
version of themselves. I am strongly averse to
shaping their future, I would rather lift them
and give them knowledge, understanding
and the tools to shape their own futures – on
their own terms. I don’t want to be imposing
my way of seeing the world on anyone else.
I don’t worry about the ‘burden of wealth’. I
believe in equipping people and them taking
personal responsibility. Wealth doesn’t need
to be a burden. It is just a starting point, there
are so many things that can be done with it. It
is just a resource .
